Invited specialists who contribute to practical workplace learning
TATY Workplace Learning collaborates with invited specialists to strengthen program accuracy, relevance, and teaching clarity. Contributions are curated into plain-language lessons, scenario exercises, and reinforcement materials so teams can practise consistently across Canada.
Specialist profiles on this page are intentionally anonymous. Specialists participate as invited experts, and TATY Workplace Learning is responsible for program design, facilitation standards, and participant materials.
A specialist’s role is to improve fidelity: the real-world nuance that makes an exercise feel credible rather than generic.
Specialist roles
The roles below describe how invited specialists typically participate. In practice, a specialist may contribute to a single module (for example, conflict de-escalation language), or to a full pathway (for example, a multi-session series that blends communication, collaboration, and resilience). When specialist input is included, we document which parts were reviewed and what was updated, then standardize the content into a consistent teaching format.
Across all roles, we focus on transfer of learning: the unglamorous work of turning ideas into repeatable behaviours. That means clear prompts, short practice loops, and simple rubrics that help participants self-check. Where certificates are requested, we may use a lightweight summative assessment such as a reflection, scenario response, or skills demonstration—always communicated upfront.
Invited Specialist
Provides targeted input on a defined topic. This role often reviews a lesson plan, checks the realism of scenarios, and suggests adjustments to teaching examples so they match workplace constraints such as time pressure, distributed teams, and mixed seniority groups.
- Reviews module drafts and participant exercises
- Suggests common pitfalls and recovery steps
- Aligns examples with Canada-wide workplace contexts
Workplace Education Expert
Focuses on learning design quality: clarity of objectives, pacing, and activity structure. This role helps ensure exercises have a defined start and end, clear instructions, and a practical “how to use this at work” step.
- Refines learning objectives and outcomes
- Improves facilitation cues and participant prompts
- Supports accessibility through plain-language review
Employee Development Consultant
Adds pragmatic guidance for manager enablement and on-the-job coaching. This role helps translate learning into routines such as one-on-one check-ins, meeting hygiene, and feedback loops that do not create additional overhead.
- Creates manager practice guides and nudges
- Aligns activities to performance conversations and role clarity
- Supports reinforcement using spaced repetition
Organizational Learning Specialist
Helps structure content into a coherent pathway. This role supports sequencing decisions (what comes first, what depends on what), and ensures each program’s activities connect to a consistent rubric so learners can track progress.
- Maps pathways across programs and courses
- Creates simple rubrics and practice checklists
- Recommends reinforcement cadence and reminders
Subject Matter Expert
Reviews topic accuracy and adds domain nuance where it matters: definitions, common misunderstandings, and decision points. This role is especially useful when a program includes policy-adjacent practices such as escalation paths or documentation habits.
- Validates terminology and key concepts
- Improves edge-case handling in scenarios
- Supports consistent participant guidance
How specialist input becomes a teachable module
Specialist input is valuable when it is turned into something participants can practise. Our workflow keeps contributions consistent and auditable: what changed, why it changed, and how it supports learning outcomes.
-
01
Define the learning target and boundaries
We agree on a narrow target (for example, “clear request and confirmation during handoffs” rather than “better communication”). Boundaries matter: what the module covers, what it does not cover, and what evidence would show the behaviour is improving.
-
02
Capture realistic scenarios and friction points
Specialists help us identify where teams get stuck: missing context, ambiguous ownership, and tone drift under pressure. We convert that into scenario prompts, roles, and constraints so practice feels like an ordinary workday, not theatre.
-
03
Write plain-language tools and practice loops
We translate specialist nuance into usable tools: conversation openers, escalation scripts, agenda patterns, and reflection prompts. Activities are structured as short loops: attempt, feedback, adjust, and re-try. This approach supports durable learning without overwhelming participants.
-
04
Standardize delivery and reinforcement
We package the module with facilitation notes, timing, accessibility checks, and reinforcement prompts for follow-up. When delivered as a cohort, we recommend a cadence that supports spaced repetition so skills are revisited and refined over time.
What this means for participants
Specialist input is not a separate “extra” session. It shows up where it matters: clearer practice instructions, more realistic scenarios, and language tools that reduce guesswork. Participants spend less time debating abstract concepts and more time rehearsing concrete behaviours they can apply in meetings, one-on-ones, and cross-team handoffs.
